To mark International Women’s Day 2025, the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, lent her voice to the critical discourse on reproductive health rights for women with disabilities.
Speaking at a workshop organized by Eagles Voice International for Disability Rights (EVIDR) on Thursday, she emphasized the urgent need for proactive health interventions and education.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal stressed the importance of reproductive health awareness, outlining practical steps such as maintaining proper nutrition, getting essential vaccinations like the Hepatitis vaccine, and embracing inclusive sexual education. She reiterated that informed women are empowered women, advocating for greater access to health resources and rights.
The workshop, themed “Self-Discovery: Understanding Your Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights,” provided a safe space for dialogue on pressing health concerns affecting women with disabilities. It sought to equip participants with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Attended by young women with disabilities residing in Lagos, as well as key stakeholders and community members, the event fostered meaningful discussions on the challenges and opportunities surrounding sexual and reproductive health. By creating awareness and promoting policy-driven solutions, the workshop reinforced the call for a more inclusive and supportive healthcare system for women with disabilities.
