by Inclusive News Network

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has participated in the Digital Futures Programme Inception Workshop organised by Sightsavers in Lagos, as part of efforts to promote digital inclusion and expand economic opportunities for young persons with disabilities.

The four-and-a-half-year programme, implemented under the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works Strategy, is designed to increase access to dignified and sustainable employment for young people with disabilities through digital skills development, entrepreneurship support and inclusive employment pathways.

Speaking at the workshop, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, delivered a goodwill message and reaffirmed the importance of strategic partnerships in building an inclusive digital economy. She stressed the need to ensure that young persons with disabilities have access to relevant digital skills, employment opportunities and the resources required to pursue entrepreneurship.

The programme will establish and strengthen IT Bridge Academies while providing inclusive digital skills training through physical, virtual and entrepreneurial pathways. It will also offer mentorship, internships and entrepreneurship support, strengthen Business and Disability Networks, promote employer engagement and advance disability-inclusive employment policies.

The workshop, holding from August 17 to 20, 2026, brings together stakeholders from government, the private sector, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities, development partners and training institutions to explore strategies for advancing digital and economic inclusion.

LASODA’s participation underscores its commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote disability inclusion, digital empowerment and sustainable livelihoods for persons with disabilities. The Digital Futures Programme is expected to contribute significantly to ensuring that young people with disabilities are equipped to participate meaningfully in Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy.
