The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) and Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), who are members of the Leave No One Behind Campaign, have urged Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to utilize the on-going continuous voter registration (CVR) process to be eligible to vote in the 2019 or other elections.

The groups in a statement yesterday regret that INEC is not capturing the data of PWDs, disaggregated by type of their disabilities in the on-going process.

The statement jointly signed by the executive directors of CDD David Anyaele and IFA Grace Jerry respectively said the campaign realizes that without this data, INEC will not be able to ensure the full participation of PWDs in the electoral process.

“We however believe that an opportunity still exist for INEC to capture the data of PWDs, disaggregated by disability types, during the on-going CVR, and before the 2019 elections. CCD and IFA urged all eligible PWDs across Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to register as voters in the on-going CVR process.

“Eligible PWDs must note that without registering as voters during the CVR process and collecting their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), they will not be able to vote during elections. PWDs must realize that it is only by voting during elections that we can shape the policies that determine our quality of life, the statement said.

The campaign however commended INEC for its continuing dialogue with electoral stakeholders to make the nation’s electoral processes more credible and inclusive
