Commission Champions Disability Inclusion with Renewable Energy Training for PWDs

by Inclusive News Network

With a vision to build a more inclusive and sustainable future, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has empowered Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through a hands-on solar installation training held in Abuja.

Over two days, participants from all 36 states converged at The Meeting Point in Kaura District to learn essential skills in renewable energy—a sector rapidly shaping Nigeria’s future. The initiative is part of NCPWD’s broader goal to equip PWDs with tools for economic independence and self-reliance.

Speaking on behalf of Executive Secretary Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, Mr. Lawrence Idemudia, Director of Social Integration, said the program represents more than training—it’s a message of empowerment.

“We are showing that PWDs are not only capable but essential to Nigeria’s progress,” Idemudia stated. “This is about creating opportunity and changing perceptions.”

The Commission praised the Federal Government’s support for disability rights and thanked BUGOFA Nigeria Limited for facilitating the sessions. Mrs. Oguntade, NCPWD’s HR Director, inspired participants to view the training as a launchpad for greater achievements.

“This is your time,” she told the trainees. “You are talented, determined, and part of the solution to building a greener, more inclusive Nigeria.”

Reaffirming its commitment to collaboration, the NCPWD called on stakeholders across sectors to help expand access to vocational training and enterprise development for PWDs nationwide.

“This is just the beginning,” concluded Mr. Idemudia. “We envision a Nigeria where inclusion drives progress for all.”
