Kano, Nigeria – The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has commended the Kano State Government for establishing the Department of People with Disabilities (PWDs) under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Disabilities.
“This landmark initiative is a direct result of CITAD’s sustained advocacy for disability inclusion in the state,” the Centre stated.
In a statement issued on Friday, 28 March, by Hamza Aminu Fagge Coordinator on behalf of Engr. Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, Executive Director of CITAD, the organization praised the appointment of Dr. Binta Bala, PhD, as the Director of the newly created department. Dr. Bala, a well-known advocate for disability rights and a beneficiary of CITAD’s inclusive initiatives, is recognized for her expertise and unwavering commitment to championing the rights of PWDs.
“We sincerely appreciate the Kano State Government for this significant move towards inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities,” the statement read. “This development demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of PWDs and ensuring their equal participation in society.”
CITAD also highlighted its recent advocacy visit, which resulted in the appointment of a PWD desk officer in the Kano State Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovations. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the state government’s efforts to enhance disability inclusion and accessibility.
CITAD expressed its eagerness to collaborate with the new department to further advance the rights and empowerment of PWDs across Kano State.
