ASLIN, JONAPWD Ogun Mourn INEC REC.

Association of Sign language Interpreters in Nigeria (ASLIN), Ogun State chapter, has offered their heartfelt condolences to the Ogun State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the passing of its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Olaniyi Ijalaiye.

In a statement signed and released by the Association, Chairman, Seyi Ogunbayo and General Secretary, John Alex, the Association said the loss is not only a significant one for the commission, but also for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community that he was committed to serve.

The Statement further notes that Ijalaiye’s leadership and dedication to the cause of accessibility and inclusion will not be forgotten, and hopes that the commission can take comfort in the knowledge that his memory and legacy will continue to inspire the work that they do. They conclude on behalf of ASLIN Ogun State to pay their last respect in due course.

In the same development, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ogun State Chapter joined in heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Olaniyi Ijalaiye Esq. and the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ogun State, on the loss of a great leader and pillar.

In a release signed by the Chairman, Dr Michael Ebonhor and State Public Relation Officer, Abayomi Salako, the Association described Ijalaiye as a great leader and pillar to the cause of inclusiveness of the Deaf and persons with disabilities in Electoral process in the State.

They pray that his soul should rest in peace and that God should grant the family and the commission strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Olaniyi Ijalaiye, aged 66, reportedly slump and died on August 19, 2024 in his hotel room following a meeting in Abuja.

The late REC is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with numerous loved ones.
