The Association of Persons with Disabilities (APWD), Badagry Chapter, has presented an Award of Appreciation to Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende Akubakre in recognition of his unwavering dedication to promoting disability inclusion in Badagry.
Originally intended to commemorate International Disability Day, the award presentation was rescheduled to coincide with Hon. Ogunlende’s birthday on March 23. Comrade Sejoro Ekundayo, Chairman of the Association, alongside Treasurer Miss Mobee Mauyon, seized the opportunity to present the award during the Grand Finale of the 2025 Annual Quran Recitation Competition, hosted by Hon. Ogunlende’s RAK Foundation at the Central Mosque.
Hon. Ogunlende’s consistent support for persons with disabilities (PWDs) made him a deserving recipient of this honor. He has previously provided financial backing for the Association’s successful hosting of the 2023 and 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrations. Additionally, he ensured a 5% allocation for PWDs in the “Ounje Anu” initiative, which distributed rice to 2,000 beneficiaries ahead of Ramadan in March, 2024.
Further demonstrating his commitment, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development extended palliatives to deaf members during the Salah celebrations in June 2024. Hon. Ogunlende has also visited the Deaf Association personally, offering cash gifts and empowering PWDs with vocational training.
His continuous acts of kindness and dedication reflect his deep compassion for the PWD community in Badagry. In recognition of his efforts, the Association presented the award through his Personal Assistant, Yaya Onagbesan.
INN reports that this is the second award of its kind this year, following APWD’s February presentation to the Nigeria French Language Village in recognition of their support for the disability community.
