After the hopes of Civil Servants in Anambra state were raised with the promise of paying the 30,000 naira minimum wage, they were unpleasantly surprised with a January salary increment of only 4000 naira. This comes after the salaries were a week due and a memo was issued by the state Head of Service to explain the reason for the delay, being that the new salary chart was being worked out and inputted into the payroll system. This is in addition to the statements made by the Governor of the state Chief Willie Obiano that come January 2020, the state would begin to pay the new minimum wage.
News released by Opera.com reports that several announcements on the state-owned radio station had it that according to the Governor, the state would be among the first to implement the new minimum wage. One can only imagine the disappointment and despair in the hearts of the workers when the credit alerts came in and they had only a 4000 naira increase.
However, it is not known whether the complete new minimum wage would be paid in the coming months. Anambra civil servants are naturally enthusiastic about their jobs, and an implementation of the new minimum wage would therefore be a pat on the shoulders to get them to put in more of their best in their duties.
One of our fans simple known as Ike who is also a civil servant in the state told INN in a comment section on our website that Level 7 officials in the state were paid ₦2000 in addition to their initial salary. “This is nothing to write about. We are not happy at all.” He said.
