Al-Makura Sponsors Medical Screening, Treatment for 14 Deaf Persons in Nasarawa

by Inclusive News Network

The Executive Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura, has once again demonstrated his compassion and commitment to the welfare of Persons with Disabilities, particularly members of the deaf community.

In a remarkable act of generosity, Senator Al-Makura personally sponsored and covered the full medical expenses for fourteen deaf individuals from Nasarawa State, including both men and women as well as a sign language interpreter, to undergo comprehensive medical screening and treatment in Abuja.

The beneficiaries were screened and treated for various hearing-related diseases and infections at Medirest Hospital, as part of the qualification process for cochlear implant surgery — a transformative procedure expected to restore their hearing and enhance their ability to communicate effectively across both the deaf and hearing communities.

Expressing their gratitude, the beneficiaries described the initiative as a historic and unprecedented act of kindness by an influential Nigerian leader. They lauded Senator Al-Makura for his empathy and practical commitment to improving the lives of Persons with Disabilities.

In his remarks, Senator Al-Makura reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to disability inclusion and pledged to shoulder the full cost of any follow-up treatments for those diagnosed with ear, nose, and throat (ENT) infections or related conditions.

“This is part of my continuous effort to ensure that Persons with Disabilities enjoy quality healthcare and equal opportunities to thrive,” the UBEC Chairman said.

The beneficiaries, represented by Adamu Idris Mohammed, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Senator for his benevolent gesture, describing it as a life-changing intervention that offers new hope to the deaf community in Nasarawa State.
