The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding healthcare access for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the state.
This commitment was renewed during a strategic meeting with the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, held in Gombe. The discussions focused on identifying new areas of collaboration to improve health outcomes for members of the disability community.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Ishiaku Adamu, expressed appreciation to GoHealth for its sustained support, particularly through the GoHealth Equity Programme, which provides free healthcare services to thousands of PWDs. He noted that healthcare is a key priority in the Commission’s mandate, as outlined in the Gombe State Disability Law signed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in December 2024.
“For us in the Commission, healthcare remains one of our core responsibilities,” Dr. Adamu said. “GoHealth has been a dependable partner right from our days as an association, and this meeting is aimed at deepening that partnership.” He also commended the leadership of GoHealth’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Abubakar Musa, for implementing reforms that are positively impacting vulnerable groups in the state.
In his remarks, Dr. Musa congratulated the Commission for championing the dignity and inclusion of PWDs in Gombe State. He stressed that physical or sensory limitations should never restrict an individual’s potential, reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to supporting PWDs in line with Governor Yahaya’s vision.
Dr. Musa disclosed that the Equity Programme has so far provided free healthcare to over 200,000 vulnerable residents, with PWDs accounting for about 10 percent of total enrolments. He assured that the Commission would have a more active role in future enrolment processes to ensure more PWDs are reached.
Both parties agreed that strengthening their partnership will enhance access to quality healthcare, promote social inclusion, and advance equality for PWDs in Gombe State.
