The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), James Lalu has assured of the Federal Government’s support for the Deaf E-3 project through the Commission. Lalu also commented on fostering collaborations amongst Gallaudet In Nigeria-Africa (GAIN), the USAID supported Deaf-E³ Activity, the NCPWD and NNAD to achieve excellent results.
The disclosure was made in a statement released by Gallaudet University and made available to Inclusive News Network on Tuesday.
Lalu says “Quality is not about the classroom, but the quality of the education and accessibility. We profoundly appreciate the excellent Deaf-E³ Activity conceived and initiated by Gallaudet University with support from USAID, towards improving the quality of life of Deaf People in Nigeria.
“Being Deaf myself and serving as the National Executive Secretary/CEO of the NCPWD, the USAID funded Deaf-E3 Activity will be one of the highest priorities of the Commission. It deserves, and will receive support of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the NCPWD.”
GAIN, in the released statement, extends heartfelt thanks to Hon. J. Lalu and National President, NNAD, Dr. Chidi Olujie for their tireless advocacy efforts on behalf of deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deafblind Nigerians. The release concludes: “we look forward to fruitful collaborations in the future”.
Mr. James Lalu who was accompanied by NNAD President, Dr. Chidi Olujie and Sign Language Interpreter & Executive Assistant to Hon. James Lalu, Mr. Timothy Tinat, had luncheon with Gallaudet University faculty and staff members from Nigeria (and Cameroon). Among the dignitaries were Dr. Khadijat Rashid, Dean of Faculty, and Executive Director of GAIN and Deaf-E³, Dr. Charles Reily, Senior International Officer, Office of International Affairs (OIA), Ms. Amanda Mueller, GAIN Interim Program Officer and Deaf-E³ Project Director, Mr. Danilo Torres, Int’l Liaison OIA, Dr. Franklin Torres, Global Learning Faculty Administrator OIA, Ms. Sachiko Flores, Co-Executive Director, Deaf Worlds (DDW), Ms. Lucy Upah, Admin. Assistant, Office of the Provost.
