As Nigeria marks World Malaria Day, an NGO, Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), has offered free malaria test and treatment for 50 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.
The group also donated treated mosquitoe nets to the beneficiaries and checked their blood pressure.
Mrs Nerat Gyang, YALI’s Coordinator in Plateau, who led the team that offered the service on Monday, said that the gesture was part of activities slated to commemorate the 2022 World Malaria Day.
Gyang said that YALI had been an inspiration to a lot of young people in its efforts to provide leadership and create social impact, particularly for less privileged persons.
”Today, we have conducted free malaria tests and provided treatment for 50 displaced persons in this community.
”We have also distributed treated mosquitoe nets to them as a way of preventing the spread of malaria.
”These people were sacked by the recent attacks on their community and they are living in terrible conditions.
”They are exposed to mosquitoe bites and prone to having malaria and this is why we decided to carry out this little intervention,” she said
She explained that the esture was made possible through the support of individuals and organisations in the state.
The coordinator called on the goverment to come to the aid of the crisis victims so as to alleviate their current sufferings.
She also called on goverment to ensure regular tests and treatments for displced persons scattered throughout the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that YALI was initiated by Barrack Obama, former President of the United States.
The programme focuses on building a new narrative for Africa in entrepreneurship, public service and civil populace engagement.(NAN)
