2022 IDPD: PWDs Task Ogun Govt on Completion of Recreation Centre in Oke Ilewo

Persons with Disabilities have urged Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to complete recreation centre for person with disabilities at Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

They also seek mandatory celebration of International day of persons with disability (IDPD) annually on December 3rd, including other days like white cane awareness day for Visual impaired, International day of Sign Language and Deaf Awareness Week, Wheel Chair day and so on.

International day of persons with disabilities is a day set aside to increase awareness on the gains to be derived from the integration of person with Disabilities in every aspect of Political, Social, economic and cultural life.

In commemoration of the day, Gov. Prince Dapo Abiodun through the Ministry of Women Affairs & social development distributed empowerment materials to persons with disabilities (PWDs). The items include grinding machines, deep freezer, dryer, hair clipper, generators, braille, typewriter, cooking gas cylinder and its cartel, baking pans, wheel chairs, guide canes, Android Tablets, Sewing machines, among other things.

While observing varying degrees of success in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole, Mrs Melutia Ogunremi, permanent secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs & Social development, Ogun state, said Governor Abiodun will continue to give adequate support and love to persons with disabilities.

“It gladdens my heart that PWDs in Ogun State are not left behind with the progressive move geared towards the betterment of persons with disabilities to make the world a more accessible and equitable place.”

Mr Salako Adesegun, the director, Rehabilitation department of the Ministry of Women Affairs & social development, paid tributes to the executives and entire members of the Joint National Association of Person with Disabilities, Ogun State Chapter for their sense of purpose, direction and followership.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the mobility and empowerment materials given to them judiciously.

The Chairman, Joint National Association of Person with Disability (JONAPWD) Ogun State Chapter, Dr Michael Ebonhor commended Gov Abiodun for his immense contributions and relentless efforts in ensuring the well being of all and sundry, including Persons with Disabilities.

While thanking the governor for the empowerment items and other benefits awarded to members, the chairman urged Gov. Abiodun to provide a bus for association members in each senatorial district of the state.
