The Metropolitan Bishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Archbishop Valerian Okeke has gifted a girl with physical Disability born without both arms, Miss Ada Aniwetalu (Ada Jesus) an ultra-modern house.
Speaking at the opening and dedication of the house at Umuazu in Nteje community, Oyi LGA of Anambra state and witnessed by a former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh, Archbishop Okeke said the unfortunate situation of the maiden was brought to his notice by a reverend sister.
He said on seeing the poor girl’s ability in her disability, vis-a-vis being able to write and perform tasks with her toes, he resolved to help her achieve her life’s goals.
This led the Archbishop to place Miss Aniwetalu on a fully-paid scholarship together with her friend (her helper).
Determined to provide her with a living apartment conducive for her personal development and studies, the Archbishop brought the plight of the girl and the proposed project to the attention to some individuals who contributed monies with which the project was realized in record time.
However, the Archbishop thanked everyone who made contributions towards the timely completion of the house acknowledging in particular, the magnanimity of Senator Victor Umeh, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso), Sir Ikem Osanakpo KSG, Sir Evaristus Ubah KSJI among many others.
In his remarks, Senator Umeh KSJI, KSS, OFR (Ohamadike Ndigbo) expressed delight at the opportunity given him by the Archbishop to be part of such divine intervention in the life of the fatherless Ada Aniwetalu who hitherto lived with her widowed mother and sibling in a rickety house.
He encouraged the Archbishop to continue in such gestures–identifying people of such imperative needs to transform their lives as such is the true essence of the church.
Some of the facilities put in the new home include well furnished living-room and bedroom, very equipped kitchen with food items that would last up to six months.
