AKTH Gets C -Arm Equipment, Perform First Spine Surgery

by Inclusive News Network

A team of surgeons assembled at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital achieved a remarkable feat last Friday when they successfully carried out a first ever spine surgery.

Consultant Neurosurgeon and the team leader of the operation, Dr Musbahu Ahmed disclosed that the surgery was conducted following donation of needed equipment by a philanthropist, and subsequent installation of the same by hospital management.

Musbahu explained that the patient was referred to the Neuro-surgical unit of the hospital with abnormalities of the spine about a year ago. However, due to non availability of needed equipment, the patient was transferred to another health facility.

On getting there, the patient discovered that she couldn’t afford the cost of the operation. She had to come back to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, for a second chance. Fortunately for her, the outcome was positive.

An enthusiastic Dr Musbahu expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the success of the first spine surgery at AKTH. The exercise was carried out on a fifty three (53) year old woman from Adamawa State.

He further assured that the patient will be able to walk upright in few days.
