100 stars for maiden Lagos/Southwest regional para-athletics championship

No fewer than 100 athletes from the six Southwest states are expected to compete for honours in the maiden Lagos/South-west para-athletics regional tournament.

The event will hold between November 18 and 20, at the mainbowl of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The host state, Lagos, will present 30 participants, Ogun 30, Ekiti 10, Ondo 10, Oyo 10, and Osun 10.

The Southwest regional championship is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to encourage mass participation of people living with disability in sports, especially para-sports.

The championship is also to create an enabling environment for the athlete to showcase their talents.

According to the Chairman, Para Athletics Association, Olawale Etti, events that will feature at the event include: T11 Blind Race-T12/13 100m, T36/37/38-100, F40/41-shotput and discus, F42/F44 – discuss and shot put, T45/46-200 and shot put, T54 wheel chair race 100m and 200m, F56/57-Javelin and shot put and F11- shot put.
