The State Governor, His Excellency, Most Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma has flagged off the 2021 Emergency Project of National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Imo State with the distribution of relief materials to the initial 20 persons captured. The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, appreciated most specially President Muhammadu Buhari in ensuring a coordinated approach towards social inclusion to combat the effects of poverty and for strengthening the nation’s existing social safety net initiative.
The Governor thanked the Hon. Federal Commissioner, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim for reaching out to Imo State’s didplaced and vulnerable persons. Governor Uzodimma said, “In your generosity, you remembered and included the victims of flood disaster and vulnerable persons in Imo State in your 2021 Emergency Projects. Your support will go a long way to alleviate the sufferings and the pains of our people, as we look forward for more of your support in the future”. He also thanked RT Honorable Princess Mirriam Onuoha, the chairman of house committee on disabilities and special needs, the South-East Zonal Coordinator of the project, Imo State Emergency Management Agency, Imo State Secretary to the State Government, and everyone who helped in coordinating the days program.
The Governor explained that while the flag off captured 20 persons, same relief materials would be extended to more vulnerable groups in every Local Government Area of the State in the near future as the Commission is prepared for it. Highlight of the occasion was the flag off and handing over of relief materials to 20 persons drawn from different Local Government Areas of the State. The food and non-food items included foam, mat, buckets, rice, beans, garri, noodles, spaghetti, groundnut oil, red oil, and other food stuffs. Mrs Bridget Onyeukwu and Mr. Orisa Lazarus Okey who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to God for using both Federal and State Governments to extend help to them at such critical time.
