The Nigerian Youth League (NYL) Gombe State Chapter, under the chairmanship of Mallam Safiyanu DM paid a courtesy call to the Gombe State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Julius Ishaya Lepes as the Commissioner assured the NYL of inclusion of persons with Disabilities in its policies and programmes.
The group, while appreciating the effort of the State Government for making Youths it’s 1st, 2nd & 3rd Priority in the State, proceed by briefing the Hon. Commissioner on the state of the Association as it will soon flag off it’s activities in the State.”
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Persons with Disabilities Affairs, Yusuf Kumo commented the Chairman for giving him the opportunity to participate in the meeting and to enable him speak on behalf of Youths with disability.
While expressing concern at the rate of unemployment, unempowerment and less education of the youths, he appealed to the ministry to include PWDs in it’s policies and programs through their respective Disabled People’s Organizations/Associations, partners or through the ministry
In his response, the Hon. Commissioner after expressing his happiness over the emergence of the Nigerian Youth League in the State, charged the State executives to be focused and serve the Association in the best interest of Gombe State Youth.
He added by pleading the Association to submit all that is obtainable from the National Secretariat for proper documentation with the Ministry.
The Commissioner also assured to look into idea of PWDs inclusion by assuring inclusive policies and programs in his agenda.
In his conclusion, the Hon. Commissioner pledged to offer support in all kinds that the Nigerian Youth League may require throughout the course of it’s Struggle.
