The Zamfara State Government has approved a 50 percent discount on hospital services and medical bills for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in all state-owned health facilities.
The approval was announced by Ibrahim S. Adam, Media Aide to the Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB), Usman Ahmad Nahuche, in a statement issued on Saturday.
The board welcomed the decision, describing it as a major milestone in promoting accessible healthcare and strengthening social protection for persons with disabilities in the state.
According to the ZSPwDB, the policy reflects Governor Dauda Lawal’s commitment to inclusive governance under his rescue mission agenda, ensuring that vulnerable populations—especially persons with disabilities—are not left behind.
The board recalled that during recent Central and West Zonal Townhall Meetings, it engaged health professionals and key stakeholders on disability-inclusive healthcare, including strategies for implementing the 50 percent hospital discount. These engagements, it said, enhanced awareness of healthcare rights, accessibility, and dignity for persons with disabilities.
To support effective rollout, the board disclosed plans to engage the Ministry of Health to clarify implementation guidelines, raise awareness, and strengthen cooperation between health institutions and disability advocacy groups for consistent application of the policy statewide.
Persons with disabilities were also encouraged to obtain valid identification cards once operational procedures are finalized, to ensure seamless access to the new healthcare benefits.
The board reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other relevant government agencies to ensure the policy delivers meaningful and sustainable impact.
Governor Dauda Lawal was commended for his continued support and commitment to improving the welfare, healthcare access, and overall dignity of persons with disabilities in Zamfara State.
