Zamfara Creates Disability Board, Appoints Nahuche as Pioneer Executive Chairman

by Inclusive News Network

Zamfara State —  Governor Dauda Lawal has inaugurated the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board, a landmark move aimed at strengthening inclusion and protecting the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, said the initiative was made possible through the recent amendment of the disability law, which now makes it compulsory for members of the board to be drawn from PWD communities. Other changes include upgrading the designation of the board’s head to “Executive Chairman” and converting part-time membership roles to full-time appointments.

Governor Lawal named retired Permanent Secretary and Deaf advocate, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Nahuche, as the pioneer Executive Chairman. The governor also approved the appointment of other board members: Hajiya Amina B.M. Audu (Spinal Cord cluster), Tukur Abdullahi (Deaf cluster), Babangida Umar Shinkafi (Physically Challenged cluster), Umar Babangida Ahmed (Blind cluster), Binta Namadi (Representative of women), and Sani Abubakar.

According to Nakwada, the board will serve as a platform to safeguard the rights of PWDs, promote equal opportunities, and ensure their voices shape government policies. He stressed that Governor Lawal’s administration is committed to social justice, equity, and inclusivity.

The governor, while congratulating the new appointees, urged them to prioritize the welfare of PWDs and to justify the confidence reposed in them. He also commended stakeholders and development partners who supported the law review process, reaffirming his government’s readiness to sustain partnerships that advance the well-being of Zamfara citizens.
