by Inclusive News Network

Bauchi, Nigeria – The World Bank is set to commence its Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) program in Bauchi State, with a strong emphasis on disability inclusion.

A delegation from the World Bank arrived in Bauchi on a one-week assessment visit aimed at integrating disability-inclusive strategies into the SURWASH initiative. The visit signals the World Bank’s growing commitment to inclusive development and improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities.

The Bauchi State Government, through its Agency for Persons with Disabilities, has submitted two key policy documents proposing ways to incorporate disability inclusion into the SURWASH program framework. The initiative has already secured a budget allocation of $2 million, underscoring the state’s resolve to advance the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.

Welcoming the delegation at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport was the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Brisca Joram Aaron. She was joined by members of the agency’s board, representatives from the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), and other agency staff.

While en route to Abuja, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, briefly met with the World Bank officials. During the meeting, he expressed his enthusiasm for the program and appreciation to the World Bank for selecting Bauchi as a participant state in the SURWASH initiative. He also reaffirmed his administration’s full commitment to the successful implementation of the program.

Governor Mohammed commended Hon. Brisca Joram Aaron for her leadership and dedication in securing financial support to address the needs of the disability community in the state.
