A deaf man, Brume Mofe-Damijo, has taken to his blog site, BMD Messages, to write an open letter to President Buhari over his recent statement on Nigeria Youths, INN reports.
In the letter addressed to the President, Mr Damijo disagreed with the President’s portrayal of Nigerian youths. He argued that the youths are not lazy and uneducated as the president declared. He angrily challenged the president’s assertions claiming that the youths are not what he said they were.
Mr Damijo says, “Dear Mr Buhari, As an active citizen of this great nation; as a political partisan who has a passion for healthy national debates, I have heard quite a lot of shocking things in the political circle against the people they so govern.
But the citizenry who has made such explosive statements, those people are not leaders. They are not famous, revered people. And they aren’t national personages. Thus, I have not been bothered so much by what they have said or done against Nigerians.
But I am so incredibly annoyed and disgusted when a president- a commander-in-Chief of the world’s most populous black nation, says that ‘Nigerian youths are uneducated and lazy.”

He pointed out that he had never heard anything so ludicrous from a president against his own people and which makes him feel disgust.
Damijo carpeted president Buhari for running a disappointing government. “Aside from your horrible performance as president for the past three years, Now, I am even more disappointed in your leaders. I no longer have trust in your ability to continue to be the leader of this country.” He blasted.
He proffered to help educate President Buhari on his cluelessness and inform him about the dynamic youths in Nigeria and around the world. “I want to tell you about some of the core characters and frameworks that are peculiar to this lofty position of the office of the president.”
“It is not just the enormous amount of vitality and creativity that is an embedded in the minds of youth that you have failed to appreciate and acknowledge, an abuse to Nigerian youth is an insult to over 65% of decent and hard-working Nigerians. The child has been the most considerable driving force for good in the history of the universe. There has never been any group of the youth”, he retorted.
“Mr Buhari, our uniqueness as youth is unequalled. It is the best time to be alive; the best time for young people to thrive, to harness the incredible potential that is inside every one of them.
This is a time of tremendous change and opportunity. Our time is now. Look around the glory, including the breathtaking innovations that surround us today- the technology, the innovation, the discoveries, the foods, the information and ideas that are continually flowing and enriching spirits” , he pointed out.
Damijo berated the president for stifling creativity and innovations of the youth by means of “chains and fetters”
“I want you to know, however, that with just a slight change in your priorities as government, you can institute an enabling environment where every single young person in Nigeria can succeed.
As president, the words that you assert have significant implications. So are your activities and deeds. And then you have to be cautious with the claims and assertions that emanate from you. If you are starting to make jocular remarks, let the people know that. If you are working to cause a fire among your people, you should have the courage to take responsibility that may spring up. Your action as a president has consequences. Do not attempt to fight them”, he angrily advised.
He reminded president Buhari that his most solemn responsibility as president of Nigeria was to defend all nigerian citizens in theory, and in practice, on paper and in the abstract, on the pitch, on the court, in the pool, in the classrooms, and in the laboratories; also his ability to take an active grip on his emotions at critical times. “You cannot let emotions rule you; you have to have a thick skin. You have to test and create order and be everybody’s president”, Damijo advised.
While wishing president Buhari well, he reminded him that “youthfulness is energy. Youthfulness is vigorous. The moment you forget that the minute you cease to be living”, he concluded.
