I Was Promised N30 Million To Harvest Human Parts For Money Ritual – Suspect
A 35-year-old suspected ritualist has disclosed how he severed the hands and legs of a corpse at a cemetery in Ondo State after he was promised N30 million.
The suspected ritualist, Timothy Odeniyi, who was apprehended by men of the Ondo State Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, stated that before he was caught, he was to deliver the human parts in Lagos State.
Odeniyi, who was paraded at the Amotekun Office on Monday, said that he got the human hands and legs from a cemetery at Sabo axis of Ondo town, the headquarters of the Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
According to the suspect, who used to work as a truck driver for a brewery company, his former boss in the company’s waste department was the one who sent him to get the human parts to be used for money ritual.
“I went to the cemetery to cut the legs and hands of one of the bodies buried there. I had planned to deliver the parts to the person who sent me in Lagos before I was apprehended. Once I deliver the items, he promised to give me N30 million,” he said.
“The burial ground I went is in Ondo town’s Sabo axis to chop the parts; I didn’t kill anyone, and it was my first time. I used to drive a trailer.
“When I used to drive a truck, the man who sent me used to be my supervisor. I used to throw the parts in the trash, and he’ll send people to pick it up.”
Meanwhile, the state Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disputed the suspect’s story, stating that he killed someone on purpose before detaching the parts after which he buried the victim in a shallow grave.
“We have a suspect in our custody, Timothy Odeniyi who was caught and arrested with legs and hands of human being wrapped in paper,” Adeleye said.
“Upon interrogation, he took us to where he severed the body of the person killed and hurriedly buried the person in a shallow grave.”
Man sets visually impaired brother on fire over land dispute, JONAPWD wants justice
•The murdered Mmaduabuchi Nnofu
Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, has called for justice over the death of their member, Mmaduabuchi Nnofu.
The 47-year-old visually impaired victim from Eziagulu in Ekwulobia community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was allegedly killed and set ablaze by his younger brother, Onyedika Nnofu over land dispute.
JONAPWD in a statement on Monday jointly signed by the state Chairman of the Association, Ugochukwu Okeke E.C.; the Public Relations Officer, Comr. Ifeanyi Igwegbe; and the Legal Adviser, Barr. Peter Muoneke, in which they also noted that the late blind Nnofu was the Chairman of the association in Aguata Local Government Area.
The statement partly reads: “The attention of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD), Anambra State chapter has been drawn to the gruesome murder of our Chairman in Aguata L.G.A. Chapter, Mr. Mmaduabuchi Nnofu, a visually impaired.
“Nnofu, aged 47, a native of Eziagulu in Ekwulobia community, Aguata L.G.A., was allegedly murdered and set ablaze by his younger brother, Mr. Onyedika Nnofu on Sunday, January 30, 2022.
“Our sources told us that Nnofu was at home relaxing when the suspect came in with weapons and killed him before setting him ablaze within the compound. We suspect that he was murdered over a family land which had been duly assigned to him by their late father.
“Late Mmaduabuchi, while alive, confided in us that the land in question was willed to him by their late father, who also willed another one behind his to the prime suspect.
“He also told us that his brother since then had tried all he could to take over the land by force for sale.
“Hence, the prime suspect approached Aguata Customary Court, which in its wisdom, urged them to settle the issue out of court. They were still waiting to settle the case out of court, only for us to hear the news that the suspect allegedly walked into his compound last Sunday and gruesomely murdered him.
“This evil act was perpetrated on our member because he was blind and helpless. Mmaduabuchi Nnofu was killed because his sibling saw him as nobody or disabled especially because he was blind and unmarried. This negates his rights as human as are upheld by the United Nations Charter; Article 15 and section 21(1b) of the Anambra State Disability Rights Law (2018), and Sections 33 and 43 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“Therefore, we are demanding for justice for late Mmaduabuchi Nnofu. Justice is necessary to prevent a repeat of this man’s inhumanity to man on our members or any other person anywhere in Nigeria.”
JONAPWD appealed to the Nigerian Police Force, Anambra State Command to, arrest the prime suspect, conduct investigation into the matter and charge him and other possible conspirators to court accordingly.
It also asked the Anambra State Government, international community, civil society organisations and other relevant bodies to kindly wade into the ugly incident to bring lasting justice to its member.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the suspect was undergoing interrogation.
He said: “The Anambra State Police Command today 31/1/2022 wishes inform the general public especially Ndi Anamabra that the suspect who allegedly murdered and set ablaze one Mr Maduabuchi Nnofu at Eziagulu village in Ekwulobia has been arrested and now in custody.
“The suspect, Mr Onyedika Philip Nnofu, is currently undergoing interrogation in Police custody. Preliminary information reveals that the brothers were having issues over land.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Echeng Echeng has sued for calm and assures a comprehensive investigation into the incident.”
