The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Borno State has announced a fifty percent reduction in the cost of nomination forms for women and persons with disabilities ahead of the December 13 local government elections. The party says the move is part of efforts to promote inclusion and encourage wider political participation.
APC State Chairman, Alhaji Bello Ayuba, disclosed this during a press conference in Maiduguri. He explained that councillorship forms will now cost two hundred and fifty thousand naira, while chairmanship forms will go for one million naira for women and aspirants with disabilities — down from the standard fees of five hundred thousand and two million naira respectively.
Ayuba said the decision followed consultations with party stakeholders and was inspired by similar inclusive practices in Katsina and Lagos States. He assured that the party would conduct transparent primaries where all aspirants, regardless of gender or disability, would be given equal opportunity to contest.
He further revealed that the screening of aspirants for the twenty-seven local government chairmanship and three hundred and twenty councillorship positions would soon commence. The move has been commended by advocates as a positive step toward ensuring that women and persons with disabilities have greater representation in leadership and governance.
