The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD) has facilitated the appointment of three persons with disabilities into permanent and pensionable federal positions, marking another milestone in advancing inclusion and empowerment in the state.
The beneficiaries—Yusuf Yahaya, Kalipha Bala and Abdullahi Ali Bako—were drawn from the three senatorial zones of Gombe State, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to fairness and equitable representation. The appointees represent diverse disability groups, including persons who are blind, deaf, and those with mobility impairments.
The achievement has been attributed to the support of the Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, whose administration established the Commission to promote the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities. The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ishiyaku Adamu, commended the Governor’s leadership, noting that it has created opportunities for qualified persons with disabilities to access meaningful employment.
Adamu further assured that the Commission would continue to pursue more opportunities at state, national and international levels, including ongoing efforts to secure foreign scholarships for persons with disabilities. He also urged young persons with disabilities to take advantage of free education policies under the state’s disability law and strive for academic excellence.
Also speaking, the APC Disabled Leader in the state, Yakubu Ahmad, praised the Commission’s efforts and encouraged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving as worthy ambassadors of the disability community.
The development underscores the impact of inclusive governance and policies in creating pathways for persons with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to national development.
