The Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development celebrates this year International Day for people with disabilities in a unique and glamorous way.

Showers of gifts were given to respective cluster members. The event was attended by many dignitaries, including a representative of the wife of the governor, commissioner for women affairs and social development, directors and executives of JONAPWD.

Perhaps as a consequence of a scheduling conflict, recorded was the absence of the wife of the Governor- through her representative was present and the First Lady reiterated her commitment to adequate welfare for PWDs in Ogun state.

Stressed was the need for better quality of life for PWDs through various developmental programmes in which Ogun is not left out.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ogun State chapter, Mr. Lekan Mohammed thanked the organisers of the programme and appreciated the support, care and love the association has been receiving from her Excellency since the inception of his administration. He also appeals to His Excellency for the assent of the much-awaited disability bill recently passed into Law by the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Mr. Lekan believes that without any doubt the implementation of the bill will address many of the challenges facing PWDs in Ogun State and will provide and promote an inclusive, sustainable and resilient society for all.

He said the theme of this year’s celebration – “Transformation Towards Sustainable and Resilient Society for All” was apt and in tandem with his vision which is to enable people with disability become active contributors in the society.

He said: “As a government, it is very critical for us to ensure the effective integration of people living with disabilities, especially in today’s changing world.
