The Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB), Taraba State Chapter, has called on Senator David Su Jimkuta, representing Taraba South Senatorial District, to ensure full inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in his programmes and constituency initiatives.
In an open letter signed by its State Chairman, Mr. Wanderimam Teyang, and dated November 4, 2025, the association commended the Senator for his efforts in improving the lives of his constituents through various programmes and scholarship schemes. However, it expressed disappointment over what it described as the “consistent exclusion” of PWDs from such initiatives.
Mr. Teyang noted that despite several laudable interventions by the Senator, including recent scholarship awards for students to study abroad, no single beneficiary was a person with a disability.
“As a Senator representing the good people of Taraba South, I would like to know why you have consistently excluded persons with disabilities from your initiatives,” the letter read. “Let me remind you that the National Assembly, of which you are a member, passed the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, which mandates all programmes to be inclusive, with at least five percent of resources allocated to PWDs.”
He urged the Senator to take urgent steps to correct the perceived neglect by making his projects and interventions disability-inclusive, adding that persons with disabilities in Taraba South deserve equal opportunities and representation.
The association proposed that Senator Jimkuta initiate empowerment programmes, scholarship opportunities, and employment schemes specifically tailored for persons with disabilities. It also recommended that his office collaborate with organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in planning and implementation.
“As a constituent of Taraba South, I must express my pain and disappointment in this continued neglect,” Teyang stated. “Are persons with disabilities not part of your constituency? Are we not part of Taraba South? We seek answers and inclusion.”
The letter concluded with a call for the Senator to mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd by organizing an inclusive programme to celebrate and empower persons with disabilities in Taraba South.
