The Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN), Bauchi State Chapter, has called on the public and relevant stakeholders to support its efforts to improve access to physiotherapy services for its members.
The call followed an awareness visit and strategic meeting led by the association’s chairman, Iliya Ismail, with the Physiotherapy Department of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
The engagement aimed to strengthen collaboration between SCIAN and the hospital to enhance access to essential physiotherapy care for persons living with spinal cord injuries. Both parties discussed practical ways to ensure members can access treatment more easily, including the possibility of subsidized services.
The association emphasized that physiotherapy plays a critical role in improving mobility, independence, and overall quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injuries. However, it noted that many members face significant barriers, particularly the high cost of transportation and treatment, which often limits regular access to care.
SCIAN also highlighted the need for broader partnerships, stating its openness to support from individuals, organizations, and government bodies willing to contribute to its mission.
The association expressed optimism that with increased collaboration and public support, access to physiotherapy services will improve, ultimately enhancing the well-being of its members.
