In a move aimed at promoting social inclusion and easing the burden of economic hardship, the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has distributed food items and cash assistance to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Bauchi State.
The humanitarian gesture, carried out as part of activities marking the 2026 Ramadan season, is intended to support vulnerable residents and ensure they are not left behind during the holy month of fasting and charity.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BWSO, Malam Muktar Jarmajo, said the initiative was designed to cushion the impact of current economic challenges on persons with disabilities. According to him, Ramadan often places additional financial pressure on low-income households, making support from charitable organizations even more critical.
Jarmajo noted that beyond seasonal interventions, the organization remains committed to implementing sustainable empowerment programmes that will enable persons with disabilities to become self-reliant and economically independent.
As part of the support, beneficiaries received 10-kilogram bags of rice, while the organization also donated ₦500,000 to assist disability groups with transportation and logistics during the distribution process.
In addition, Jarmajo announced a special employment opportunity reserved for a woman with disability, describing the move as part of BWSO’s commitment to promoting gender-inclusive humanitarian support.
To ensure accountability, he warned that BWSO monitors would be deployed to oversee the distribution process and ensure fairness among leaders of disability groups handling the exercise.
He also called on philanthropists, development partners and well-meaning Nigerians to complement the efforts of the organization in supporting vulnerable communities.
“This initiative is part of our social responsibility to ensure that disability does not translate into social or economic exclusion,” he said.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Muktar Umar Malam Goje and Fatima Abdulrahman, expressed appreciation to the organization, describing the intervention as timely support that would ease the burden on their families during the Ramadan period.
