Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, has approved the release of ₦677,572,815 for the payment of bursary allowances, academic excellence awards, and scholarships — including ₦7 million dedicated to students with disabilities — for Katsina indigenes studying in various tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The approval was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, on Saturday.
Mohammed said the initiative reflects Governor Radda’s commitment to inclusive education and empowerment under his Building Your Future agenda, which prioritises human capital development and equal opportunity.
According to the breakdown, ₦283,521,639 will be disbursed as bursary allowances to newly admitted Katsina students, ₦15 million will fund the State Government Award of Academic Excellence for First-Class graduates, and ₦7 million will support the Annual Scholarship Programme for Persons with Disabilities.
The release follows an earlier disbursement of ₦372,051,176 in September 2024 for continuing students, bringing the total investment for the 2024/2025 academic session to ₦677,572,815.
Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Scholarship Board, Dr. Aminu Tsauri, described the approval as a landmark step that strengthens Governor Radda’s record of supporting education as a tool for social inclusion and empowerment.
He said the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the scholarship scheme demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ensuring no student is left behind, regardless of circumstance.
Award letters for beneficiaries will be distributed across institutions from October 28, 2025, while newly admitted law students are to report to the Board Headquarters between October 27 and 30 for documentation.
The Radda administration also supports foreign scholarships for Katsina students in specialised fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Bioengineering, and Medicine in China and Egypt — part of efforts to build a globally competitive and inclusive generation of young leaders.
