Del-York Creative Academy (DCA) celebrated the Youth in Animation and Post-Production Initiative (YAPPI) Inclusive Day, held on July 9, 2025, at the LCCI Exhibition Hall in Ikeja, Lagos. The event spotlighted the creativity and potential of young talents — including persons with disabilities (PWDs) — in Nigeria’s growing creative industry.
The inclusive celebration welcomed Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), as the keynote speaker and special honoree. She was presented with an award recognizing her role as a Leading Voice in Disability Advocacy, applauding her relentless efforts to champion inclusion and empowerment for PWDs.
Delivering a keynote address titled “Every Ability Counts: A YAPPI Inclusive Day,” Oyetunde-Lawal emphasized the importance of recognizing and nurturing diverse abilities. She encouraged PWDs to harness platforms like YAPPI to build valuable creative skills that can lead to long-term empowerment.
She also lauded the Lagos State Government’s commitment to inclusion, urging persons with disabilities to actively engage with the opportunities being made available. “Take your training seriously, and don’t expect quick money,” she advised. “I look forward to the day a participant says, ‘YAPPI changed my life.’”
Mr. Ikenna Oguike, YAPPI Program Lead, reaffirmed the academy’s goal of creating globally competitive talents through innovation and skill development. “We don’t just train people; we ensure fair employment and sustainability,” he noted.
