Project Enable Africa Alumni Network (PEAAN) held its first ever Easter hangout on Monday 18th April, 2022 in commemoration of the Easter holidays. The anticipated event proved to be fun, interactive, memorable and inclusive for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos state.
The event which took place at Inclusion Hub in Surulere, had persons with various forms of disabilities including the deaf, the blind, physically challenged, Persons with Albinism, wheelchair users, etc, present. There were fun filled and interesting activities, including watching a newly released Nollywood movie, interactions, in-house relationship discussions, sharing of relationship experiences, among others.

Speaking to our correspondent, the community mobilization lead and alumni relations officer for PEAAN, Ngozi Ukpai-Okoro said for over 8 years, Project Enable Africa have been training persons with disability with numerous empowerment opportunities.
These opportunities come as physical training programs which usually hold at the Inclusion Hub in Surulere, Lagos. But with the advent of Covid-19 in 2020, the group had to also embrace the virtual space to run several business support programs virtually, including interviews and certifications. As a result, they noticed there were a lot of beneficiaries who they had not met in person before.
This Easter hangout served as an avenue for members of the Project Enable Africa (PEA) Alumni Network to come together and know themselves better.
Giving more insights, Ukpai-Okoro noted that the hangout was to create a safe space for persons with disability from all clusters, where they could interact, have fun and relieve themselves of stress without feeling discriminated.
“This hangout was our maiden edition and we are so glad that it was a big success. We are looking forward to planning another in the third quarter of the year.
“We hope to have more persons with disability join us. And we also encourage persons without disability to come around and experience how an inclusive party is held and how PWDs relate with one another.” She said.
