The founder of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has officiated the marriage of Aboy Chibuzor, a young man with autism, to an older single woman, despite earlier public criticism surrounding the arrangement.
The wedding ceremony took place on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the church.
The groom, who is non-verbal and requires daily support, was reportedly abandoned at the church as a child and has since remained under the care of the cleric.
Following the ceremony, Chinyere announced financial support for the couple, including a cash gift of N10 million, provision of a house, and sponsorship of an overseas vacation. He explained that the initiative was intended to provide companionship and long-term support for the young man.
The marriage follows widespread backlash that greeted the pastor’s earlier public call for a wife for the autistic man, with many critics describing the move as inappropriate and potentially demeaning to women.
In response to the criticism, Chinyere issued an apology, stating that he had no intention of disrespecting or degrading women.
Providing an update after the wedding, the cleric also claimed that positive changes had already begun in the groom’s condition, noting that he was now able to feed himself without assistance. He expressed optimism about the young man’s future, adding that he believes the groom may begin to speak within six months.
In a message shared on his Facebook page, Chinyere wrote that additional support had been pledged by members of the church, including donations of N1 million and N200,000 from congregants. He further promised a long-term financial gift of N20 million to the couple after 10 years, conditional on the groom’s continued well-being.
