David Obinna Anyaele, the chairman of the Abia State Commission for the Welfare of the Disabled Persons, has congratulated Benson Nworgu Ogechika Esther for securing Nigeria’s second medal, a silver in the women’s 41kg para-powerlifting category at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris.

INN reports that Nworgu also set two new Paralympic records in the process as she lifted 118 kg in her final attempt, just one kilogramme shy of the gold medal, which was claimed by China’s Zhe Cui with a lift of 119 kg.

Nworgu’s earlier attempts of 106 kg and 112 kg had already positioned her as a strong contender, but it was her record-breaking 118 kg lift that secured her the silver medal.

In a statement released through his social media handle, the Abia commission chairman noted that the medal won by Benson Nworgu has made Abians and indeed Nigerians proud of her new world records.

“Congratulations to our one and only Benson Nworgu Ogechika Esther.

“You won the silver medal in the women’s 41kg Para-Powerlifting event at the ongoing Paralympic Games. You also set two new #Paralympics Records with your last two attempts, lifting an impressive 112kg and 118kg respectively.

“Abians and indeed Nigerians are proud of your new world records. You’re a role model to many young athletes with disabilities. Your Future is bright.” Anyaele said.
