NGO to Build Modern Care Centre for Children with Disabilities in Nigeria

OAKonsult Disabilities Outreach, a UK and Nigeria-based non-governmental organisation, has unveiled plans to construct a state-of-the-art facility to support children and young adults with special needs in Nigeria.

The upcoming centre—named Oak Centre Prime—will offer comprehensive care, diagnostic services, accommodation, day-care, therapeutic interventions, and educational support for up to 250 individuals. The facility will be fully accessible and designed to enhance the quality of life for people living with disabilities.

According to Olufunke Adeloye, Chief Responsibility Officer of OAKonsult, the project is a deeply personal mission inspired by her late daughter, Chikatara Adeleye, who suffered brain damage due to medical negligence and passed away at 16 after years of treatment.

“This centre will demonstrate that children with disabilities can live fulfilled lives with the right support,” Adeloye stated. “We aim to bring healthcare, education, and therapy together under one roof—so no one needs to go abroad for help.”

The facility is set to be built in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, on land donated by the local king. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for April 22, 2025.

Adeloye called for public and private sector collaboration to bring the vision to life, urging government agencies, companies, and professionals to contribute funding, expertise, and advocacy. She also appealed for improved policies around disability inclusion and education.

OAKonsult advisory board member, Deji Irawo, praised the project’s potential to reshape perceptions and services for special needs children in Nigeria. “These children are special, and society must begin to see them that way,” he said.
