New Era Initiative for Persons with Disabilities, a non-profit organisation born out of passion for the progress, upliftment and stability of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), has donated food items to vulnerable persons in Ogun State.
Food items include rice, garri, noodles, salt, snacks, drinks and toiletries were distributed during the second edition of the end of year party organised by the Initiative on Saturday.
Persons with disabilities from across Abeokuta and some local government areas in Ogun State converged at Totoro Abeokuta to give praises to God for his protection from the beginning of January to December, 2023 and prayed to see them through to the new year, 2024.
Thanking the gathering for honouring the invitations to the party in the capital city of Ogun State, the Chairman of the New Era Initiative for Persons with Disabilities, Emperor Adeyinka Adekunle urged persons with disabilities not to be idle and wasteful but rather acquire skills that will bring out the best in their abilities and make them self reliant.
Adekunle used the occasion to solicit the support of eminent personalities who are privileged in society to partner with the organisation in other to reduce street begging in the State.
Also speaking, Mrs Toyin Adekunle adviced persons with disabilities to always maintain good personal hygiene at home and the environment and to avoid any forms of diseases, while also charging them to do a regular health check up in a hospital.
The Vice Chairman of the group Comrade Olusola Philip assured that the organisation will continue to put smile on the faces of persons with disabilities around them.
A member, Mrs. Tomisin Olatayo, who anchored the programme charged members of the society to always extend their hands in giving towards PWDs not in a demeaning way but as a sign of showing love this period and beyond.
In his vote of thanks, Mr. Tunji Alabede appreciated the donors and PWDs who attended the programme, pleading for more support in the future. He prayed that 2024 will the greater than the former.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms Monsurat Olabode, thanked the organisation for the kind gesture, she prayed for the organisation’s continued growth and development.
