by Inclusive News Network

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food and non-food items to 706 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) whose households were affected by recent flash floods in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

The relief package included 25kg bags of rice, 10kg bags of sugar, cartons of spaghetti, cartons of instant noodles, gallons of vegetable oil, mats, and blankets.

Presenting the items to beneficiaries on Wednesday in Maiduguri, the State Coordinator of NEDC, Engr. Mohammed Umar, said the intervention was approved by the Commission’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, to cushion the hardship faced by flood victims in communities such as Bulumkutu Tsaleke, Bulumkutu Abuja, Bulumkutu Ngomari, Ajilari Cross, Pompomari by-pass, and Zajeri.

According to him, each beneficiary received one bag of rice, one bag of sugar, a carton of spaghetti, a carton of noodles, a gallon of oil, a mat, and a blanket. He added that similar interventions had recently been carried out for victims of floods in Maiduguri, Jere, Chibok, Hawul, Damboa, Adamawa State, and Dass Local Government Area in Bauchi State.

Just two days earlier, NEDC had extended similar support to about 3,200 other residents affected by flooding within Maiduguri metropolis.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the State Chairman of PWDs, Mallam Mohammed Abubakar, commended the Commission for its consistent support, noting that the relief materials would bring significant relief to PWDs and their families.
