The Executive Secretary of the National Commission For Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Dr. James David Lalu has disclosed that the commission will launch an investigation into the recent incident involving alleged discrimination against person with disability (PWD) by Rano airline.

Rano airline had on, Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, at Maiduguri International Airport, denied Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai, a person with disability and the Yobe State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) access to fly the Rano aircraft, because of his disability, despite booking and paying for his ticket. The actions made him miss a crucial Disability Stakeholders conference he was billed to attend.

Lalu in a statement released on Thursday said Rano airline will be invited as the commission commences investigation into the case.

“I want to address the recent incident involving alleged discrimination against Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai, the State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, by the AA Rano airline at the Maiduguri Airport. The airline will be invited as we commence a thorough investigation into the case immediately.”
