NCPWD Grills Rano Air Over Alleged Discrimination Incident

by Inclusive News Network

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has today initiated a formal investigation into Rano Air regarding allegations of discrimination against Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai, the State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities.

The incident, which occurred at Maiduguri International Airport, Borno State, involved the denial of boarding to Mr. Gabai because he was using a wheelchair. Promptly responding to this serious allegation, the NCPWD summoned representatives from Rano Air for questioning.

Representatives from Rano Air, led by Sulaiman Abdulraheem Esq., appeared before the Commission’s investigative panel and underwent extensive questioning for over five hours. The session was part of a thorough investigation to determine the facts surrounding the alleged discriminatory incident and to ensure accountability for any breaches of disability rights.

During the investigation, the NCPWD identified several discriminatory practices within Rano Air’s operational policies. The airline has been mandated to rectify these policies immediately and is required to present the revised policies during their next scheduled appearance for further examination.

The NCPWD advises the general public to recognize the gravity of this incident and to refrain from any form of discrimination against persons with disabilities. Dr. James David Lalu, PhD, NPOM, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, had earlier emphasized the Commission’s unwavering commitment to enforcing disability rights laws.

“We will pursue all legal avenues to ensure the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities are upheld.”
