In a bold step toward making Nigeria’s aviation sector more inclusive, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has inaugurated a Disability Inclusion Oversight Committee.
The initiative, unveiled at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja by Director General Captain Chris Najomo, comes on the heels of an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Persons With Disabilities.
Najomo described the development as proof of the Authority’s strong commitment to promoting equal opportunities for persons with disabilities, noting that the NCAA is aligning its operations with both the Nigerian Disability Act and global standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). “Accessibility is not optional; it is fundamental to a safer and more inclusive aviation system,” he stated.
The committee will be chaired by NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu. Its mandate includes monitoring compliance with disability laws, evaluating industry practices, and ensuring that airlines, airports, and related stakeholders provide facilities and services that respect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.
With this move, the NCAA says it is not only improving passenger experience but also positioning Nigeria as a model of inclusivity in African aviation—ensuring that every traveler, regardless of physical ability, enjoys safe, comfortable, and dignified air travel.
