N/Assembly Honours UBA With Disability-Friendly Award

by Inclusive News Network

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has received the Disability Friendly Bank Award from the National Assembly, recognizing its efforts in providing inclusive banking services for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The award was presented by Hon. Bashiru Dawodu, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Disability, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

According to Dawodu, UBA was particularly lauded for its initiatives supporting the visually impaired. “This committee serves as a hub for the disability community. When nominations were called for organizations excelling in disability inclusion, UBA stood out for its commitment to addressing the needs of the visually impaired. This recognition celebrates their remarkable contributions,” he stated.

Responding to the honor, UBA’s Executive Director (North), Mr. Alex Alozie, accompanied by Ms. May Ikhile, Manager of UBA’s National Assembly branch, expressed gratitude. “We are deeply honored by this recognition from the House of Representatives. While we are not yet at the pinnacle, our vision is clear, and we are determined to achieve our goals,” Alozie said.

Explaining UBA’s dedication to disability inclusion, he highlighted the bank’s proactive approach: “Disability issues are often overlooked by corporate entities. As a socially responsible organization, UBA felt compelled to address this gap. We’ve printed account opening forms in accessible formats for the visually impaired, enabling individuals across Nigeria to open accounts with ease.”

UBA’s recognition reaffirms its position as a trailblazer in fostering accessibility and inclusion, further solidifying its reputation as a socially responsible institution.
