The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to disability inclusion by disbursing financial support to selected disability-focused NGOs, Homes, Foundations and Cluster groups. The event took place on 21st November 2025 at the Agency’s premises.
The General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, was represented at the programme by the Deputy Director of Finance and Accounts Department, Mr. Akinbule Adesola Hezekiah, who welcomed beneficiaries to the yearly support initiative. He emphasized that the gesture reflects the intentions of Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, whose administration continues to appreciate and encourage organisations working tirelessly within the disability community.
According to him, while the amount may not be significant, it stands as a token of recognition of the groups’ dedication. He further encouraged persons with disabilities who have not registered with LASODA to do so, stressing that the Agency remains accessible and supportive.
He also reiterated LASODA’s call for stakeholders to provide regular feedback on the needs, challenges and progress within their various communities, noting that such information helps the Agency develop effective strategies for improved service delivery.
In his remarks, the Director of Social Development and Integration, Mr. Kelani Akeem, urged NGOs, Homes and Foundations to submit consistent reports on their activities. He revealed that although over 100 disability-based groups are registered with LASODA, only 25 were selected for this round of support based on activity levels and compliance requirements.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the CEO of So-Said Charity Home for Vulnerable Persons, Mrs. Felicia Martins, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and LASODA. She reaffirmed that “every disability is a possibility,” encouraging persons with disabilities to maintain hope and positivity despite challenges. She applauded LASODA and the State Government for consistently supporting their welfare and ensuring that the disability community remains visible and included in societal progress.
Other Homes and foundations which benefited were Excellent Child Initiative, Tolajoke Foundation, SAFREL Speech and Language Development Centre, Igbehin Adun Special School, Iyaniwura Foundation among others.
