LASODA Strengthens Economic Inclusion as 100 PWDs Receive Entrepreneurial, CAC Registration Training

In a deliberate move to deepen economic inclusion and reduce barriers to opportunity, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has trained 100 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in entrepreneurship and business registration, equipping them with skills to build sustainable and formalized enterprises.

The capacity-building programme, held on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at the STO Resources Centre, Ikeja, was 8themed “Building Sustainable Enterprises: Entrepreneurial Growth and Business Registration,” Inclusive News Network (INN) reports.

Addressing participants, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the initiative was designed to tackle one of the major obstacles limiting economic advancement among persons with disabilities—the lack of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, which often disqualifies them from accessing grants, loans, and government-backed support schemes.

She acknowledged the continuous support of the Lagos State Government in promoting disability inclusion and noted that empowering persons with disabilities economically remains a critical pathway to independence and long-term social inclusion.

According to Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal, the programme aligns with LASODA’s core mandate of improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities through skills acquisition and economic empowerment. She explained that beyond business registration, participants were exposed to essential knowledge in business management, financial literacy, record keeping, and sustainability planning.

She emphasized that proper documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements are fundamental to business growth, stressing that CAC registration has become a basic prerequisite for most funding opportunities. She urged participants to adopt professional business practices that would enable continuity, growth, and the creation of generational value.

Encouraging participants to overcome fear and embrace entrepreneurship, the LASODA General Manager noted that successful business owners are those who take informed and calculated risks. She highlighted the importance of innovation, sound financial management, quality service delivery, and the strategic use of digital platforms and social media to expand market reach.

The programme featured expert-led sessions on key aspects of enterprise development. Mrs. Adetutu Adedayo Ijasan facilitated a session on “Taxation in Nigeria,” where participants were educated on the evolving tax system, bookkeeping fundamentals, and compliance with current tax regulations.

Another session was delivered by business consultant Mr. Ogungbenro Taiwo Shakiru, who provided practical insights on entrepreneurship and business management, focusing on strategies for growth, sustainability, and competitiveness.

Speaking with INN, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal reiterated LASODA’s commitment to expanding inclusive economic opportunities for persons with disabilities. She disclosed that the initiative, which commenced last year, was introduced to close the opportunity gap created by the absence of CAC registration among many PWD-owned businesses.

Participants commended LASODA and the Lagos State Government for the impactful intervention. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Yemisi Ishola Alabi, described the programme as transformative, noting that her previous participation had significantly strengthened her business operations and confidence as an entrepreneur.
