by Sejoro Ekundayo

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) on Saturday, 14th March 2026 hosted the 2025 Ability Games at the Isheri Rehabilitation and Vocational Centre, where athletes with disabilities competed in various sporting events and winners received cash prizes.

The event brought together Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) from across the state, who participated in competitions such as table tennis, shot put, Ludo, chess, and para-lifting etc. aimed at promoting inclusion, empowerment, and community integration.

Speaking at the event, LASODA General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, described the games as a platform that goes beyond sports, highlighting courage, resilience, and the potential in every individual regardless of physical limitations.

She said the initiative reinforces the message that talent knows no disability and that determination has no boundaries.

Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal noted that the Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, remains committed to inclusive governance through the THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises equal opportunities for all residents.

According to her, the Ability Games were designed to provide persons with disabilities the opportunity to actively participate in sports while showcasing their talents and abilities.

She added that sports play a critical role in fostering unity and breaking societal barriers, noting that disability-focused sporting initiatives in Lagos enable participants to compete, excel, and explore opportunities within the sports ecosystem.

The LASODA boss also called on parents, institutions, and the wider society to end discrimination against persons with disabilities, stressing that disability does not limit an individual’s capability. She commended the athletes for their determination and perseverance, describing them as an inspiration to others.

Participants expressed appreciation to LASODA for creating a platform that promotes inclusion and allows them to showcase their talents.
