The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has equipped civil servants with disabilities across the state with assistive work tools as part of efforts to enhance productivity and workplace efficiency.
The empowerment programme, themed “Enhancing Productivity: Supporting Civil Servants with Disabilities,” held on March 16, 2026, underscores the agency’s commitment to strengthening inclusive service delivery within the Lagos State civil service.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the initiative was designed to improve the professional performance of beneficiaries by providing them with essential technological and assistive devices. She urged recipients to justify the investment by demonstrating excellence in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that outstanding performance could earn them recognition, including Best Staff Awards.
Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal further revealed that LASODA would liaise with MDAs to monitor the usage and impact of the tools, ensuring they contribute meaningfully to improved productivity. She also commended the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for approving increased budgetary allocation to support persons with disabilities in the civil service.
Items distributed at the programme included Intel Core HP laptops, JAWS-enabled laptops, mobility scooters, automated wheelchairs, prosthetic devices, crutches and hearing aids. Beneficiaries were drawn from various MDAs, including the Ministries of Education, Health, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Information, and Home Affairs, as well as Igbogbo Local Council Development Area.
In an interview, the LASODA General Manager disclosed that 50 civil servants with disabilities benefited from the current phase of the programme, emphasizing the growing role of technology in promoting accessibility and efficiency in public service.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mr. Ajayi Adeniyi of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the tools—particularly the JAWS-enabled laptop—would significantly improve work output and bridge functional gaps in daily operations. He described the programme as a commendable step towards improving the working conditions of persons with disabilities in Lagos State.
