The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), in collaboration with Raising Stars Africa Foundation, has commissioned four newly upgraded classroom blocks at Aganju Iku Inclusive Primary School 2, Okokomaiko, Ojo Local Government Area. The development marks another significant step in strengthening inclusive education infrastructure across Lagos State.
During the official commissioning held on Monday, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, highlighted the critical importance of inclusive education in identifying children with special needs early and providing them with targeted academic support. She stressed that every child, regardless of disability status, deserves equal access to quality learning opportunities.
Oyetunde-Lawal also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to expanding inclusive education and ensuring that no learner is left behind. She called on school management and community members to take ownership of the newly upgraded facilities and ensure their proper maintenance for long-term use.
The classroom blocks were officially handed over to the Education Secretary of Ojo Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Abiola, and the Head of the School’s Inclusive Unit, Alhaja Fatima Alade Ayopo. Both recipients expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the timely intervention, noting that the project will significantly enhance learning opportunities for all children, including those with disabilities.
In particularly, the Head of the Inclusive Unit, expressed deep gratitude, noting that the renovated classrooms will enhance learning for pupils with disabilities and boost parents’ confidence in the school. She praised the LASODA General Manager and Lagos State Government and appreciated Hon. Kolawole Abiola, who represented the Ojo Local Government Education Authority.
Also speaking at the ceremony, LASODA’s Director of Social Development and Integration, Mr. Akeem Kelani, described the initiative as part of the state’s broader obligation to improve educational access and experiences for learners with disabilities.
