The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering creativity, innovation, and inclusion through the successful hosting of the 2025 Ability Expo and Talent Hunt.
The one-day event, held at the Shomolu Local Government Secretariat, created an enabling platform for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to display their products, skills, and talents, demonstrating the immense potential that flourishes when equal opportunities are provided.
A major highlight of the program was the lively talent hunt, where participants showcased their abilities in singing and dancing, captivating the audience with their performances. Winners across the different categories were rewarded with cash prizes, a gesture aimed at encouraging PWDs to further develop and nurture their talents.
Addressing the gathering, LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, represented by Mrs. Olukanni-Abokhai, Director of the Medical Rehabilitation, Mobility Aids and Appliances Department, reiterated LASODA’s unwavering commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities. She emphasized that PWDs should not be defined by their disabilities but by their contributions, skills, and talents.
Oyetunde-Lawal also expressed deep appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his steadfast support of inclusive initiatives, while acknowledging the role of caregivers, partners, and the disability community in driving change.
In his remarks, the Director of Social Development and Integration, Mr. Akeem Kelani, praised the ingenuity and creativity of the disability community. He assured participants of the State Government’s commitment to building a society where no one is left behind, stressing that the 2025 Ability Expo and Talent Hunt aligns with Lagos State’s vision of inclusivity.
Also speaking, LASODA’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, expressed gratitude to participants, guests, and stakeholders for contributing to the event’s success.
The event also featured engaging lectures. In one of the sessions, Mrs. Morenikeji Omaiboje delivered a lecture on “Sensitizing PWDs Against Trafficking in Persons and Irregular Migration.” She shed light on the vulnerability of PWDs to exploitation and provided practical steps to promote awareness and prevention.
