Lagos City Marathon: Record-Breaking Winner Bags Extra $20,000

Winner of the 2020 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, David Barmasai Tumo has been awarded an additional $20,000 for breaking the marathon’s four-year 42km race record.

The Kenyan finished the race in first position after two hours, 10 minutes and 22 seconds, the fastest in the competition’s history.

He was awarded the $50,000 prize for 1st place.

Previous winners of the competition include Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum who completed the race in 2:16:21 seconds in 2016; Kiptum again in 2017 ran a better 2:15:20 seconds; Abraham Kiprotich completed the race in 2:13:04 seconds in 2018; Sintayehu Legese of Ethopia finished first after 2:17:28 seconds in 2019.

The record-breaking feat earned David a place in the history books, as well as $20,000 extra, bringing his total prize money to $70,000.
