…appoints Ibrahim Daniel Arome as chairman, board for disabilities affairs, presents letter of appointment
The Government of Kogi State has warned its citizenry to desist from stigmatizing People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) saying it is committed to creating equal opportunities for all irrespective of physical challenges.
Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Ayoade Arike gave the warning on Tuesday, March 15 during presentation of letter of appointment to Arome Ibrahim Daniel as Chairman, State Board for Disabled Affairs at her Lokoja office.
Ayoade Arike noted that the Act which established the board was designed to cater for well-being of those with special needs.
While congratulating the board chairman and Persons with Disabilities selected for taking off of the board, the SSG assured of Government’s commitment to change their lives and guarantee equal opportunities for the State’s citizenry.
She admonished PWDs to consider themselves capable in order to realize their God given potentials instead of seeing their physical challenges as impediments.
In his acceptance speech, new Chairman of the board, Arome Ibrahim Daniel commended Gov. Yahaya Bello for setting up the board to cut across all categories of the State’s citizenry in Governance. He assured of their loyalty and support to the administration.
Arome also thanked Her Excellency, Barr (Mrs) Amina Oyoza Bello, Deputy Governor Chief Edward Onoja, Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, Secretary to the Chief of Staff, Pharm. Jamiu Asuku and Hon. Amb Umar Bolori.
According to him, all disability groups in the State are solidly behind Gov. Bello’s Presidential ambition to re-enact his performance in the State at national level.
In his remark, Comrade Solomon Yahaya, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) Kogi state, expressed gratitude at the inauguration of the office to cater to special needs, meanwhile hoping that it will attain the status of a full fledged ministry in the nearest future.
While thanking the Governor for the appointment, he described the new Board Chairman as trusted, humble and experienced to move the board forward and to deliver his mandate.
A former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Disabilities applauded the Governor for creating a window for the disabled to unleash their potentials and to arouse in them the consciousness that there is ability in disability.
