Kebbi to Establish Commission for Persons with Disabilities

The Kebbi State Government says it is set to establish a Commission for Persons with Disabilities, an official has said.

Hon. Yakubu Ahmed-BK, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Culture disclosed this while briefing Journalists shortly after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

The commissioner said the commission, if established, would be saddled with the responsibility of issues related to persons with disabilities, adding that a Bill seeking the establishment of the commission would soon be sent to the State House of Assembly.

He said: “During our SEC meeting presided over by His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, we have deliberated and arrived at a position on three number of issues.

“These issues include; establishment of Disability Commission, RIGATA Cultural Festival and traditional rulers allowances.”

Ahmed-BK further explained that government was working towards RIGATA Cultural Festival expected to hold in February 2024 in Yauri Emirate, assuring that arrangement had already begun.

The commissioner recalled that the Emir of Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi had earlier requested for review of traditional rulers’ allowances to enable them discharge their duties diligently.

In line with this, Ahmed-BK said, the issue was delibrated during the SEC meeting, assuring that the state government was looking into it with a view to proffering solution to it.

The commissioner appealed to all and sundry to rally round the present administration to pave way for more dividends of democracy in their respective domains.

He sighted the ongoing transformation of the state capital, completion of the multi-billion Naira ultramodern secretariat project among others as some of the giant projects that would directly touch the lives of Kebbi people.

“Support and cooperation of people to government policies and programmes is highly needed, this is to enable the present government achieve the desired goals and objectives, hence the need for call to all to support His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu to deliver the goods successfully,” he pleaded.
